Day 3 – Norwegian Bliss Inaugural Transatlantic

It’s Day 3 of the Inaugural Transatlantic cruise on Norwegian Bliss.

We slept in a bit later this morning and went up to the Garden Cafe for breakfast at 10:30am. What a difference an hour makes! There was a much reduced selection of hot and cold food at the far end of the Cafe. No yoghurts, fresh fruit, omelettes or pastries. Looks like we will be setting an alarm from now on.

After breakfast, we headed to the Observation Lounge which was packed with people. The view outside was pretty foggy but I guess there are limited indoor spaces when the weather isn’t great.

The staff were getting the food ready for lunch and it looked fantastic.

Being British, I was keen to try a scone with jam and cream.

The scone and jam was nice but the cream was sweet, foamy and faux.

Next we stopped by The Atrium where adults were having a little too much fun creating balloon animals.

We then met up with the Cruisecritic Roll Call organised cabin crawl where we got to look at various cabins in different categories. Chris got video footage but here are a few pictures of an amazing Haven H8 stateroom.

So we are back in the District Brewhouse for the rest of the afternoon. Some beers are already going out of stock!

For dinner, we decided to eat at Food Republic. Earlier in the cruise we had asked if we could take food from there across to District Brewhouse as the limited food items on the menu there were too fishy for Chris. But after checking they said no, which was a shame. So we had to sit down at a table and use their funky tablet booking system to order.

We were disappointed that Chicken Teryaki wasn’t listed as on the Norwegian Escape menu. We ordered a selection of 4 dishes that came to $40 and I paid a la carte by swiping my card, writing my signature on the tablet with my finger and entering my year of birth! The drinks had to be ordered via the waiter however. Chris chose a Redbook ESB (from the Brewhouse stock) and I tried a Thai Rum Tonic.

For the food, the standout dishes for us were the Salt and Pepper Calamari and the Ramen with BBQ Pork Belly

We started to eat the other two dishes before taking photos, oops! These were Ginger Miso Chicken and Korean Fried Chicken.

Chris didn’t care for the Ginger Miso because the chicken was too fatty for his tastes. And oh my, the Korean chicken was way too spicy for me. My lips were tingling for a while but then I am a wimp where spice is concerned. Chris loved it though.

We passed on dessert as we had other plans!

We headed back to the stateroom to change for the evening.

I know you don’t have to on Norwegian but it’s just a smart top for me and shirt and trousers for Chris. You see a range of outfits – from t-shirts, sweatshirts gilets to fancy long dresses and tuxes!

We were surprised to find these amazing chocolate covered strawberries in our stateroom – a gift from Norwegian.

We saved them for later as we were off to Coco’s! We were the only customers when we were seated at our table.

The light in Coco’s wasn’t great so excuse the reflection on the menu pics.

We made the mistake of ordering an ice-cream sundae each. Nutella and Milk Chocolate Sundae and a Decadent Brownie S’more.

They were amazing with lashings of cream and rich chocolate ice-cream – just huge and we could have shared one.

We thought about going to see The Beatlemaniacs Live in The Cavern Club so headed up to deck 8 and stopped for a drink at The Maltings Whiskey Bar as we had 90 minutes before the show. This was a huge mistake – we were slow to notice that people were disappearing into The Cavern Club already. I finally went in to take a look and all seats were taken with over an hour to go! We sat and watched from the bar as passengers streamed into The Cavern Club only for them to turn around and come straight out again! The ship is just over half capacity with 2,500 passengers on board – imagine what it will be like when full!

So we headed over to the District Brewhouse where we had a great evening laughing and singing along with the hilarious Jim Badger.
