Star Princess is the second Sphere class ship from Princess and we loved following her build and launch journey. She will now head across the Atlantic and we wish all her future guests have a wonderful time on this beautiful ship.

Some passengers on the Inaugural were caught out by the International Cafe closing at midnight last night. This is the published time in the Patter. Other options are:
- Grab and Go sandwiches and salads from The Eatery (quite limited last night).
- Ordering via OceanNow from your stateroom,
If a guest needs food in an emergency for diabetes for example, then they should always pack their own bars and snacks. Or go to the International Cafe before midnight to take something back to their room for later.

Local newspaper, Il Piccolo, has reported that Star Princess will be delivered by Fincantieri tomorrow:

On Friday September 26, at the Monfalcone shipyard, Fincantieri will deliver the Star Princess, the second Sphere-Class ship, a green LNG-powered cruise ship, to Princess Cruises , the US shipping company of the Carnival Cruises Group. Princess Cruises operates a fleet of 16 cruise ships carrying millions of passengers to 330 destinations worldwide. At the Panzano shipyard, everything is ready for the traditional reflagging ceremony this morning. The ship has been completed and is scheduled to set sail from Barcelona on October 4.

Local Trieste newspaper, Il Piccolo, has reported another accident at the Monfalcone shipyard. A worker has been airlifted to hospital suffering a serious injury to his right foot after being crushed under the wheel of a forklift. Shipyard Worker Hurt in Fall
Local Trieste newspaper, Il Piccolo, has reported that a shipyard worker fell just over 2 metres into an escape stairway leading to the engine room from deck 2 of Star Princess. The worker hurt his head and hips but remained conscious and was taken to the hospital in Trieste in a moderately critical condition. Investigations are underway as to the exact cause.

Princess have announced a new Entertainment Lineup for Star Princess.
This includes:
- Two new production shows called Meridian and Illuminate: A Spectacle of Joy.
- The return of Viva La Musica, the Latin America themed musical that debuted on Sun Princess.
- Candlelight Concerts in the Dome.
- Princess Jamz sessions in the Piazza with the Princess World Orchestra led by the Cruise Director.

New 3-Day Maiden Caribbean cruise on sale
Princess Cruises have now added a 3 day cruise departing from Fort Lauderdale on Friday November 7th, stopping off at their private island Princess Cays on November 8th before a day at sea and returning to Fort Lauderdale on November 10th.
The Transatlantic is due to arrive in Fort Lauderdale on Wednesday November 5th so there is likely to be media events planned for the 2 days before the maiden Caribbean departure.

Star Princess Enhancements
Princess Cruises have announced some planned enhancements for Star Princess. These include:
Expanded Non-Smoking Casino Areas: Gaming enthusiasts who prefer a smoke-free environment will enjoy 68 additional slot machines in newly designated non-smoking sections of the casino.
The deck plans show this will be located on the other side of the Piazza on deck 8. This will take over the space where Oceanfront is located on Sun Princess and some of the Shops of Princess.
O’Malley’s Irish Pub Expansion: With 32 more seats, this popular venue will accommodate more guests looking to enjoy traditional Irish food, live music, and a selection of beers and whiskeys.
It has been indicated that the Gelato bar will be located elsewhere to make room for this expansion.
Expanded Love by Britto: This exclusive, art-inspired dining venue, a collaboration between artist Romero Britto and Chef Rudi Sodamin, will add 20 more seats for guests to savor its unique seven-course fusion menu.
New SkyDeck Sports Court & Track: Active guests will enjoy the new sports court for pickleball and basketball, as well as a jogging track, splash pad, and shaded areas for relaxation.

Star Princess Floated Out
Princess Cruises, the world-famous cruise line delivering dream vacations to millions each year, celebrated a major construction milestone today of its second Sphere-Class vessel, Star Princess, with the traditional maritime float out ceremony at the Fincantieri Shipyard in Monfalcone, Italy. The new ship will now transfer to the outfitting quay where construction will continue in anticipation of her Fall 2025 debut.
Honoring the hundreds-year-old seafaring custom, the float out celebrates the first time the superstructure of a new ship meets water for the first time. Third Engineer Chiara del Vecchio, who currently works aboard sister ship Sun Princess, served as the brand’s madrina and became the first member of the Princess technical team to hold this time-honored role.
“Today is a celebration of teamwork, craftsmanship, and innovation. Star Princess is the second ship in our new Sphere class, and now as she prepares to take to the water for the first time it is a testament to the incredible dedication and skill of the entire shipyard team,” said John Padgett, Princess Cruises president. “Fincantieri has again turned vision into reality, building on the success of her sister ship – Sun Princess, which has already captured the hearts of our guests with its elegance and cutting-edge design. Together, we are creating amazing machines that will inspire adventure and deliver unforgettable experiences for all who sail with us for decades to come.”
Padgett also announced that Commodore Nick Nash and Captain Gennaro Arma, who both were on hand for the ceremony, will serve as masters of Star Princess. Arma will serve as master of Star Princess when the ship is delivered next fall ahead of Commodore Nash’s turn at the helm.
Additional Star Princess senior officers include:
Chief Engineer Gaetano Guida who joined Princess Cruises in 2002 and was named chief engineer aboard Royal Princess in 2017. Guida was part of the team that delivered Sun Princess and continues to play an important role in guiding the construction and delivery of Star Princess from the Fincantieri shipyard.
Chief Engineer Massimiliano Imperiale is a 15-year Princess Cruises veteran, having joined the company in 1999 as third engineer, with his first appointment as Chief Engineer in 2013 aboard Caribbean Princess.
Staff Captain Chris King joined Princess in 2010 as a third officer, following several years working as a deck cadet on container ships. He was named Staff Captain in 2023 and currently serves in this capacity aboard Discovery Princess.
Staff Captain Michele Russo has worked at Princess for nearly two decades, joining the company as a deck cadet on the since-retired Dawn Princess. After moving up through the ranks he was named Safety Officer in 2017 and his current position, Staff Captain, last year.
Hotel General Manager Ralph D’Souza joined Princess in 2006 as a junior purser and was named hotel general manager in 2019. He has been part of the launch team for several ships, including the new Sun Princess, and was also part of the deployment team for the MedallionClass Experience in 2017.
Hotel General Manager Bosco Pires has been a Princess Cruises hotel general manager since 2019 and has served on a variety of ships throughout the fleet. His nearly 25 years of specialized cruise industry experience has provided him with a solid foundation in both business and hospitality operations.
The 4,300-guest, 178,000-ton Star Princess is the second in the new Sphere Class of ships for Princess and will also be powered by liquefied natural gas (LNG). Sister ship Sun Princess, also built by Fincantieri in Monfalcone, debuted in February and is hailed as the next-level Love Boat featuring the iconic and elegant structural lines Princess is known for, while delivering an evolution of the brand with new eye-catching architectural spectacles like The Dome, the cruise industry’s first geodesic feature on the top deck; The Sphere, the suspended glass Sphere Piazza at the center of the cruise ship; and The Arena, the most technically advanced theater at sea.

As a madrina, Chiara will uphold a time-honored maritime tradition later this month by smashing the ceremonial bottle of champagne during Star Princess’ float-out at the Fincantieri shipyard in Monfalcone, Italy, symbolizing good fortune and safe travels for everyone on board.

Star Princess to sail in Alaska
While attending the Sun Princess Christening Ceremony today, Vicki Johnson, the head of communications at Princess Cruises, announced that Star Princess will sail to Alaska in 2026 after a debut summer in the Mediterranean and a season in the Caribbean.
The Alaska cruises will go on sale on from 18th July 2024.
Princess President John Padgett said Star Princess will ‘essentially be a twin to Sun Princess, ‘with a few tweaks’, adding: “It will be a slightly more refined Sun Princess.”

Princess and Fincantieri to Delay Star Princess Delivery
Princess Cruises and ship builder Fincantieri today announced the mutual decision to postpone the delivery of the next Sphere Class ship, Star Princess.
Following a comprehensive review of the remaining construction milestones, both parties have elected to adjust the ship’s delivery date from July 29, 2025 to September 26, 2025, which will result in the cancellation of the nine inaugural sailings.
“Despite our collective dedication and relentless pursuit to deliver the ship in late July, it has become evident that additional time is required to ensure the Star Princess is delivered to the highest standards expected by our guests,” said John Padgett, president of Princess Cruises.
The new inaugural sailings of Star Princess will sail roundtrip from Barcelona and include an 11-day Mediterranean voyage on October 4, 2025, and a 7-day Mediterranean voyage on October 15, 2025, that precede a 14-day transatlantic crossing to Fort Lauderdale on October 22, 2025 for the ship’s first Caribbean season. These three new cruises will open for sale on April 30, 2024.
Guests who are booked on any of the impacted voyages will be given three options: book any Princess cruise worldwide, including aboard the new Star, sister ship Sun Princess, or any other Princess ship.
Guests who elect to rebook will receive future cruise- and onboard-credits depending on the cruise they select. Guests will also have the option to cancel and receive a full refund of the cruise fare.

Princess Cruises announced the two captains who will serve as masters of Star Princess.
Captain Gennaro Arma, who currently serves as the newbuild site lead for the construction of both Sun Princess and Star Princess, will be master of the 17th Princess ship when she debuts in summer 2025, bringing her into service from the shipyard. When Captain Arma is on leave, Commodore Nick Nash will take over the navigation and leadership of Star Princess.
“It is my privilege to introduce and congratulate the masters of the stunning new Star Princess,” said John Padgett, Princess Cruises president. “Captain Arma and Commodore Nash have remarkable histories with Princess, and will provide great experience and excellent leadership on our newest vessel.”
Commodore Nick Nash, a 33-year veteran of Princess Cruises, was promoted to the rank of commodore of the line’s global fleet in 2020. He currently serves as captain of Enchanted Princess, having navigated the ship out of the Fincantieri shipyard for the first time. Commodore Nash first joined the company in 1989 and was promoted to staff captain in 1997. In 2002, he became captain and has been at the helm of many Princess vessels. Commodore Nash also has served as President of the Nautical Institute and after two years now serves on the council. He was awarded the United Kingdom’s Merchant Navy Medal for meritorious service in 2018. He is a Chartered Master Mariner, a Fellow of The Nautical Institute, The Royal Institute of Navigation, The Royal Geographical Society and a Younger Brother of Trinity House.
Captain Gennaro Arma has always been passionate about the sea. He began his career with Princess Cruises in 1998 as a Cadet and moved up the ranks achieving his first command as Captain of Sea Princess in 2015, where he navigated the ship on two world cruises. He took the helm of Diamond Princess in 2018 and in 2020 and was honoured with the recognition of Commander of the Order of Merit of the Italian Republic, the highest of the orders of the Italian Republic, and selected among the 20 most influential Italian characters of the year by Vanity Fair in December 2020. Arma has also received the title of Magister of Amalfi Civilization for the Byzantine New Year, the Emanuela Loi award for courage, and the Assarmatori prize from the Italian maritime association awarded by the Minister of Transportation. He most recently served as captain of Discovery Princess. He was born in Sorrento, Italy, where he lives with his wife Mariana and his son Diego.

Traditional Keel Laying Ceremony at Fincantieri Shipyard Marks Construction Milestone
Princess Cruises and the line’s partners at Fincantieri Shipyard today celebrated the beginning of construction of the second Sphere Class cruise ship – Star Princess – with the official keel laying ceremony in Monfalcone, Italy.
The keel, the bottommost part of the ship and main foundation, is the first block of the vessel to be constructed. Star Princess’ 500-ton (1.1 million pound) keel was ceremoniously lowered by crane into position on the keel blocks in the dry dock, where the ship will remain until the float out. The computer-guided maneuver took only minutes, commencing the more than two million man-hours that will ultimately go into building the cruise ship.
Followed by a traditional blessing and ceremony, Princess and Fincantieri executives welded a Princess Medallion into the ship, believed to bring good luck to the vessel and all who sail on her.
“Our multi-decade shipbuilding collaboration continues to progress as we build spectacular ships that are enabled by the most advanced technology available while infusing magnificent Italian craftsmanship and respecting beautiful Princess design heritage,” said John Padgett, Princess Cruises president.
Star Princess joins her sister ship, Sun Princess, as the largest ships ever built for Princess at 175,500 tons and carrying 4,300 guests. The new ship is built on a platform that is distinctly different and unique to Princess, designed to simultaneously embrace the Princess heritage while celebrating the romance of the sea by offering more dynamic, outward views.
While 20 percent larger than any of the line’s existing ships, Star Princess’ design retains the more intimate settings Princess is known for, with several new and incredibly ground-breaking spaces such as:
- The Dome, a transformational entertainment venue inspired by the terraces of Santorini.
- Next-level Piazza, featuring a glass sphere.
- “See it to believe it” Princess Arena, a configurable, technologically-advanced main theater that allows Princess to produce a variety of innovative entertainment concepts
- A majestic, three-story dining room positioned aft of the ship to deliver unforgettable wake views
Guests also will love the expanded accommodations options with luxurious staterooms and suites, elevating the art of relaxation and serenity. Star Princess guests can enjoy the exclusive Princess Experience, powered by the Medallion, that extends Princess’ leadership position in delivering exceptional personalized experiences.
The new ship will be the second in the Princess fleet to be powered by LNG fuel technology and also is being built with the most advanced sustainable innovations available.
