In early August 2019, a new app was released called MedallionClass which brings together all the previous Ocean Medallion apps with some additional features. This makes it a lot easier for users on an Ocean Medallion cruise – less downloads and a much-improved user experience. Note that it is not necessary to download any app to enjoy your cruise.
MedallionClass can currently be found in the Apple Store for use on Apple devices only – availability for Android devices is contingent upon review/approval from Google, if all goes well the app will be accessible in the next two weeks. The app will be rolled out to all Medallion-class ships by Saturday, August 17.
Here is an early look at the functionality provided.
The MedallionClass app as it first appeared in the Apple Store:
Once downloaded and installed, users will see the following MedallionClass Set Up screen:
The Tips screen will then allow you to view tips on what’s available in MedallionClass (or Skip):
You are then taken to the login/sign-up screen:
The different methods of identifying yourself and logging on:
Once you are logged in, you are taken to the Ocean Ready screen:
Ocean Ready allows users to scan in their passport, take a security photo, set a PIN. US residents can also pre-order the Ocean Medallions and accessories to arrive before they leave home – Medallions are usually delivered two weeks before the cruise by FedEx.
Using Ocean Ready is not mandatory but will allow users to board more quickly – Ocean Medallions can always be picked up at the port of embarkation.
Clicking on Get Ocean Ready will prompt you to link your booking:
You can also swipe to scroll to access the other Ocean functionality:
Journey View allow users to view their real-time itinerary, along with events and activities taking place during their cruise. It used to be available via ship portals only. Users can bookmark events they are interested in and view them in a filtered list. Plus it’s actually better than the daily paper patters because they can view activities for the whole of the cruise by scrolling along the timeline. This is great for planning ahead.
Ocean Now allows users to order food and drink from their mobile phone or smart device wherever they are on the ship, whilst the Ocean Medallion tells crew exactly where they are located. With the introduction of the new app, it can now be used to request more hangers or a full ice bucket from your room steward, or to order retail items like sunscreen.
Ocean View lets users stream “Ocean Original” TV shows from their stateroom to their sunlounger. This includes shows like The VoyagerTM with Josh Garcia; Ocean TreksTM with Jeff Corwin, Vacation CreationTM with Tommy Davidson and Andrea Feczko and Good Spirits. It will also showcase video collections from the Carnival’s cruise brands.
Ocean Compass works alongside the Ocean Medallion to allow people to easily locate friends, family and their children, as well as finding their way to a variety of facilities and venues located around the ship.
Play Ocean allows users to set up an “Ocean Tagalong” – an avatar in the shape of a seahorse, turtle or butterfly fish. They can also take part in Games Under the Stars sessions on the giant movie screen on deck, using their smart device as a game controller.
Ocean Casino is for anyone who fancies a flutter at slots, poker, roulette. Users can even log into a live bingo game.
Selecting the icon in the top left of the screen will provide access to your account details and a menu.
Selecting OceanProfile will provide access to a number of profile details:
My Journeys will display your previous Ocean Medallion cruises:
My Account will allow access to cruise personaliser information and allow you to define a shipping address if you can receive a Medallion via mail.
Edit Allergens will allow to identify any allergens. This is a great way of expanding the number of crew members with access to this information :
Edit Affinities will allow to identify your preferred affinities:
Medallion Net will provide instructions on how to connect to MedallionNet:
Support will provide information on how to get support on any issues you have with MedallionClass:
Early feedback on MedallionClass has been very positive – it’s less glitchy and very easy to use with a seamless link to the data entered in the previous apps.
Another exciting development is that much of the functionality that was currently only available on an app is now being rolled out to stateroom TVs– from finding a cruise companion or playing trivia to ordering a pizza.
We look forward to exploring more functionality with our upcoming cruise on Sky Princess!
